Green Grass Of The Soccer Field Royalty Free Stock Photo 1200x801px ...Football, or soccer as it is known in the U.S., is often called “the beautiful game,” but it has a very ugly side. Because the sport has become so popular around the world, people of all nationalities have fallen in love with the sport, which, at times, has caused tensions between races when on the pitch.

Practically every major soccer tournament has erupted in some type of controversy involving racism. Soccer is a passionate game played by passionate players and is watched with passion by fans. When this passion boils over into hatred, it sullies the reputation of the game and keeps it from reaching a wider audience. (more…)

Soccer Field, Right Proportion And Field Measures. Vector. - 54544567 ...Have we kicked racism out of soccer yet? The 2012 Summer Olympics just ended recently in London, and it looked like the soccer games went off pretty well, or as the internationals call them, football. There is not a ton of racism here in the United States in soccer, but there is enough that it bothers me. Soccer has been a predominantly caucasian sport, although recent years have seen more players of Latino descent. Some players unfortunately have a mentality that soccer is one of the safe sports that African-Americans have not taken over.

Some point to the success of international soccer at the Olympics as suggestions that racism does not exist at that level of the game. I might have to disagree. (more…)
